DESCRIPTION:The weakening of influence and resources of local education authorities, the rise of academies and the intensifying of racism and racist attacks following the EU referendum has led to a rise of exclusions from schools of some of Britain’s most vulnerable communities.  In this Education and Social Justice (ESJ) Keynote Lecture, Chris Searle will consider the situation regarding exclusions in his home city of Sheffield and its relevance to other British cities.\n
 Chris Searle was born in Romford in 1944.  He has written or edited over fifty books on subjects as diverse as education, poetry, language, journalism, cricket and jazz.  He writes a weekly jazz column for the socialist daily newspaper, the Morning Star. Doodlebug Bug is Chris Searle’s fifth book of poems. His autobiography “Isaac and I:  A Life in Poetry” will be published in April 2017 by Five Leaves Press. Find out more about Chris Searle\n
